Slow down, I say
Slow down, I say, this world needs a grace-filled pace.
It’s not supposed to be this way. Why are we so rushed?
We cannot heal or love well when we are in a hurry.
Might I add that a divided focus is truly no real focus at all.
Slow down, I say, for soon the winter will be put away.
But you must know this one thing while you’re here–
this season has much to teach you, though you want it gone.
Slow down, I say, God isn’t going anywhere today.
Slow down, I say, God’s got this thing,
even on the days you feel like you don’t.
The blessing of love is that it’s always there.
It never leaves nor forsakes. Never, I say.
Slow down, I say, and love the skin you’re in.
Your body isn’t something to be cursed or “fixed.”
The vessel that holds your spirit is wonderful,
and the artist who formed it crafted you with care.
Slow down, I say, for time is both a treasure and a thief.
Time reminds us to say “I love you” and hug people tightly.
Time holds our biggest beginnings and achievements,
as well as our most devastating heartaches and griefs.
Slow down, I say, and ask if life is where you want it to be.
Wherever you are, you’re living someone else’s dream.
So turn on a song, light a candle, and let yourself cry–
be them tears of joy or sorrow, or gratitude or longing.
Slow down, I say, don’t miss this wonderful life.
Soon, the kids will be all grown up and gone.
One day, you’ll long for these snuggles.
So as you sigh, take a mental picture.
Slow down, I say, God has good gifts to give.
If only you would cease; if only you would see.
Slow down, I say, please slow down.
One more time, I say, please slow down.
